Born in 1920 in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, in a family of musicians, Shri Gopaldas Panse received his training in Pakhawaj from his father Shri Bholanath Panse and other members of the Nana Panse gharana. He is also an accomplished Tabla player. Shri Gopaldas Panse has performed widely, accompany- ing several noted vocalists and instrumentalists on Pakhawaj. He has also performed solo. He has featured in a large number of recordings as accompanist for eminent artists like Ustads Asad Ali Khan, Rahim Fahimu-ddin Dagar and other eminent musicians of the Dagar family. Shri Panse worked in All India Radio till his retirement. Shri Gopaldas Panse recei- ves the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Hindustani instrumental music.
