Purisai N. Subramaniya Thambiran

Born in 1933 in Purisai, Tamil Nadu, Shri Natesa Subramania Thambiran was trained in Therukoothu, the traditional theatre of Tamil Nadu, by his illustrious father Shri Natesa Thambiran — recipient of the first Akademi Award for Therukoothu. He represents the third generation of Therukoothu performers from Purisai.
Among the foremost Theru- koothu actors today, Shri Subramania Thambiran has helped in preserving the tradition of Koothu by imparting systematic training to younger people. His Therukoothu group has presented performances in various parts of the country. It has also performed in the Festival of India in U.S.S.R. in 1987. Shri Thambiran was honoured with the Kalaimamani title by the Tamil Nadu Eyal Isai Nataka Manram in 1992.
Shri Purisai N. Subramania Thambiran receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Therukoothu.
