Born on 24 April 1954 in Atari, Madhya Pradesh, Shrimati Teejan Bai learnt the traditional art of Pandavani from her grandfather Shri Brijlal Pardhi. She began performing Pandavani at a young age, combining speech, song and mime with consummate skill. She has since then performed widely in India and other countries and has helped to make Pandavani known outside its home in the Chhattisgarh region of Madhya Pradesh. Shrimati Teejan Bai was honoured with the Padma Shri in 1988. Shrimati Teejan Bai receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for her contribution to Pandavani.
