Debu Chaudhury

Born in 1935 in Mymansing, now in Bangladesh, Shri Debu Chaudhuri received his training in Sitar under Ustad Mushtaq Ali Khan of the Senia gharana. He also learned vocal music under Sukhendu Goswami in Calcutta.Debu Chaudhuri has performed widely in India and other countries, and has produced a number of records and audio-cassettes. He has also published several books on music. Since the 1960s he has been on the Faculty of Music, Delhi University, and has served as Dean of the Faculty. He has also taught and lectured in Europe and United States. He has trained a number of successful musicians and musicologists including his son Prateek Chaudhuri, Indrani Chakravarty, Sharmishtha Sen, and many students abroad. Debu Chaudhuri has been honoured with the Padma Bhushan, and received the Parishad Samman of the Government of Delhi in 1992. Shri Debu Chaudhuri receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Hindustani instrumental music.
