B. C. Manjunath

Shri Manjunath Chandramuli Basavanahalli was born on 29 April 1976 in Bangalore, Karnataka. He received his training in Mridangam under the tutelage of his father B K Chandramouli, and later K N Krishna Murthy and T.K. Murthy. He has obtained a Bachelor’s degree in science.
An ‘A’ grade artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan, he has performed widely in many prestigious music festivals in India and abroad. Shri Manjunath has accompanied many eminent artists such as Pandit Ravi Shankar, R. K. Srikantan, Suma Sundhindra, the Hyderabad Brothers and many others. He has conducted numerous workshops in places like the Amsterdam Conservatory, Sydney Festival, and the Conservatory of Rotterdam. He has presented a paper at the Cultural Festival on Traditional Drumming in the SAARC region, Thimpu, Bhutan. He has many recordings to his credit.
In recognition of his talent, Shri Manjunath has received various awards and titles such as the title Asthana Vidwan from Kanchi Kamakoti Peetadhipathi Jagadguru Sri Sankaracharya Swamigal Srimatam Samsthanam (2012), the Ananya Yuva Puraskara from Ananya Cultural Academy, Karnataka (2002), and the CMANA Endowment Prize from Percussive Arts Centre, Bangalore (2005). He has also received scholarships from CCRT and the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
Shri B C Manjunath is awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of Sangeet Natak Akademi for the year 2012 for his notable talent in the field of Carnatic instrumental music.
