Happy Ranajit

Born on 6 July 1983 in Kalyanpur village of Jajpur district in Odisha, Shri Happy Ranajit has earned recognition for his acting skills as well as his penchant for writing and directing plays. He earned his postgraduation in Botany before taking up theatre as his main field of activity. Shri Ranajit learnt the basics of theatre under the tutelage of his father Professor Bishnu Charan Sahoo who was running a theatre group The Utopia. He joined the National School of Drama for the threeyear PG Diploma in acting (2005-2008). He has attended numerous workshops including a workshop on physical theatre by Theatre ZAR, Poland.
Shri Ranajit has acted in many plays such as Andhara ru Andharaku Jatra (1997), Varunavant ru Vanivihar (1999), and Shree Heena Srimandira (2005) written and directed by Prof. Sahoo. He has acted in major roles in many plays such as Abhimanyu in Radheshyam Katha Wachak's Veer Abhimanyu directed by Hema Singh (2006), Pehlwan in Chaurangi directed by D R Ankur (2007), etc. He has acted in the play Zangoora which had over one thousand shows. Shri Ranajit has conducted numerous theatre workshops and has directed twelve plays such as Manaswini LR's Cigarettes (2008), Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet (2009), etc. He has written seven plays such as Familiar Strangers, and A Straight Proposal which he has directed himself.
Shri Happy Ranajit was felicitated with the Mahindra theatre award for the year 2010 for his performance in Roop Aroop. He received best actor award at the international GATS theatre festival for the play Richard III in Beijing, China.
Shri Happy Ranajit receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for the year 2012 for his notable talent as an actor.
