Gyandev Singh

Born on 8 June 1981 in Chandigarh, Shri Gyandev Singh obtained his Masters of Arts (Three Year Course in Theatre) with specialization in Theatre Design at the National School of Drama, New Delhi with national scholarship from the Department of Human Resource Development, Government of India (2003- 2006). A graduate in English from Punjab University, Chandigarh (2001-2003), Shri Singh has also received a certificate course training in Electronic Cinematography in 2002. He has studied Yakshagana under Shri S.V. Karanth under Gurukul Fellowship of SPIC MACAY. Shri Gyandev Singh has also attended a number of workshops such as UNESCO's International workshop on documentation of ICH, Puppet play production workshop conducted by Dadi Pudumjee, workshop in Pantomime conducted by Pelvin Martin, etc. He has attended workshops in UK, USA, and Portugal.
Shri Singh has worked as a lighting designer for many eminent dancers, theatre directors, musicians and puppeteers such as Leela Samson, Ram Gopal Bajaj, Aditi Mangaldas, Ashley Lobo, and many others. He has designed lighting for numerous plays such as Toya directed by Gursharan Singh, Chandigarh Puppet Masala Mix – a puppet show directed by Dadi Pudumjee, Thaiyya Thaiyyam directed by Kavalam Narayana Panikkar, etc. He has also devised performances such as Bhoma using sound and images, and designed and directed Veronika Decides to Die – a play based on a Paulo Coelho novel. Shri Gyandev Singh has also produced and directed documentaries and short films on cultural heritage and social themes. Shri Singh has participated in numerous national and international theatre and dance festivals.
Shri Gyandev Singh receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for the year 2012 for his notable talent as a lighting designer.
