Born in 1930 in Udaipur, Rajasthan, in a family of traditional musicians, Shri Inder Lal Dhandra received his early training in music from his father Bihari Lal Dhandra; he was later a disciple of Dilip Chandra Vedi. A performer of distinction, Shri Inder Lal Dhandra is profi- cient both as accompanist and soloist on the Sarangi. He served as a Staff Artiste with All India Radion for about three decades until his retirement in 1990. He has accompanied most of the eminent vocalists of his time in performances in India and other countries. Shri Inder Lal Dhandra receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Hindustani instrumental music.
