Himanshu Mahant

Born on 12 July 1980 in Mhow district, Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Shri Himanshu Mahant received his training in tabla from his father Shri Balkrishna Mahant and Shri Kishan Maharaj, the legendary guru. A graded artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan and a recipient of national scholarships from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India and State scholarship from Sangeet Natak Akademi, Gujarat, he has made a mark as a young talent early in life and performed widely in the prestigious music festivals organized by various organizations in India and abroad. He has distinguished himself as a soloist and has also accompanied veterans of Hindustani music. He has attended many seminars and workshops on tabla. He has many recordings to his credit.
Shri Himanshu Mahant has received many titles and awards. These include the Kal Ke Kalakar conferred by Abhinav Kala Parishad, Bhopal (2001), the Tal Mani given by the Sur Singar Samsad, Mumbai (2006), and the Abhinav Suvarna Samman bestowed by Abhinav Kala Parishad, Bhopal in 2013.
Shri Himanshu Balkrishna Mahant is awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of Sangeet Natak Akademi for the year 2013-14 for his notable talent in the field of Hindustani instrumental music.
