Mohammad Shameem

Born on 10 June 1988 in village Paharpur in Jharkhand, Mohammad Shameem learnt the basics of Puppetry from Shri Kapil Dev with whom he performed in many productions such as Animal Kingdom, Yamlok mein Hulchal, Ek Tha Raju, etc. He later learnt the nuances of sculpting a puppet from Shri K S Radhakrishnan and from Shri Dadi D Pudumjee and Anurupa Roy. A keen learner of Puppetry and design, he has received training in sculpture, puppet making and props making, thermocol carving, papier mache, sponge foam construction and making puppets from recycled material and wood carving, etc. Mohammad Shameem has received a grant for further studies in puppetry through Foundation Marionettmusset, Stockholm for a apprentice-turned director which was offered to him by a well-known Swedish puppeteer Michael Meschke.
Working with Ishara Puppet Theatre Trust since 2004, Mohammad Shameem has participated in several international and national shows and productions such as Simple Dream, Images of Truth, Journeys, Genesis, in a number of countries such as Singapore, Austria, Switzerland, USA and Canada. With Katkatha Puppet Arts Trust, Delhi he has worked in productions such as Magic Blue, Little Blue Planet, About Ram, etc. In 2008 he founded a group named Kuch Kuch Puppet Theatre and has been presenting many of his works with the group such as Flying Flower, Hamara Circus and Pinocchio.
Shri Mohammad Shameem is awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of Sangeet Natak Akademi for 2013-14 for his notable talent in the field of Puppetry.
