Born on 1 May 1947 at Sagolband Kangabam Leikai, Imphal, Shri Maisnam Kaminikumar Singh has received his training in Manipuri dance under gurus Amubi Singh, H. Atomba Singh, Amuyaima Singh, Th. Tarunkumar Singh, Lokeshwar Singh and Paka Singh. He subsequently trained at the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal and completed his Postgraduate Diploma in Ras in 1974. He also received training in Pung playing under gurus Panjabisana Singh, Leibakmacha Singh and Laxman Singh; and Hindustani music under Shri M. Madhumangol Singh. Shri Kaminikumar Singh has excelled as a performer and teacher of Manipuri dance and as a Pung player. He joined as a teacher in 1976 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal, and retired as Pradhan Guru in 2007. He has performed widely in the group of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy in India and abroad, including the events organized by Sangeet Natak Akademi, and the Festival of India in the erstwhile U.S.S.R. He has written two books namely “Ras Sheirengi Punglon” and “Manipuri Jagoi Maharaski Punglon”. He has received several honours including the Manipur State Kala Akademi Award in 2003, and the title of Nritya Bhusan conferred by the Manipuri Sahitya Parisad, Imphal in 2010. Shri Maisnam Kaminikumar Singh receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Manipuri dance.
