Born on 2 August 1936 in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, Shri Avinash Pasricha is an iconic
name in the world of photography in the field of the Performing Arts. He has
contributed his photographs to several publications on Indian music and dance.
Associated with many prestigious cultural institutions such as Saraswati Samaj, a
cultural wing of Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, New Delhi, Shri Pasricha has worked as
Photo Editor with SPAN, a magazine published by USIS/American Embassy, from 1960-
1997. He has presented many Audio-Visual productions on the legends of music and
dance including Pandit Kumar Gandharva, Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Shrimati
Begum Akhtar, and Shrimati M.S. Subbulakshmi. He has also conducted many
seminars and workshops on dance and music.
Shri Avinash Pasricha has received many titles and awards including the Delhi State
Sahitya Kala Parishad Award (1987), the Life Time Achievement Award by Ananya,
Delhi, and the Kaladharmi Begum Akhtar Award (2013).
Shri Avinash Pasricha receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for 2016 for his
overall contribution in the performing arts (photography).
