Born on 11 October 1980 in Kolkata, West Bengal, Shrimati Shashwati Garai Ghosh received training in dance under noted dancer and choreographer, Shrimati Sharmila Biswas. She also received guidance from eminent gurus such as Shri Kelucharan Mohapatra, Shrimati Kalanidhi Narayanan, Shrimati Sonal Mansingh and Shri Durgacharan Ranbir. She has trained in dance therapy under Dr Kannan Pughazendi. Shrimati Shashwati Garai Ghosh has performed in prominent dance festivals as a soloist as well as with her guru’s troupe. She is also a recipient of the National Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. She has conducted numerous workshops for schools and other institutions. She was a faculty member at the Odissi Vision and Movement Centre, Kolkata. Presently, she has established her own Odissi dance institute, Angashuddhi. She has been honoured with many prestigious awards and titles including the Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Yuva Pratibha Samman; the Nalanda Nritya Nipuna Award; the Odissi Jyoti Award; and the title of Shringar Mani from Sur Singar Samsad, Mumbai. Shrimati Shashwati Garai Ghosh is awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of Sangeet Natak Akademi for the year 2016 for her notable talent in the field of Odissi dance.
