Arghya Sen

Born on 11 November 1935 in Faridpur, now in Bangladesh, Shri Arghya Sen received his training in Rabindrasangeet from eminent musicians including Debabrata Biswas, Kamal Kumar Dasgupta, and Dilip Kumar Roy.
He has made a notable contribution to the presentation and propagation of Rabindrasangeet over the years. He has developed a special repertoire of the songs of Rabindranath Tagore and has excelled in rendering them in concerts. He has performed extensively, featuring in various important music events. He has a number of records and cassettes to his credit.
He was closely associated with legends of the performing arts such as Uday Shankar, Sombhu Mitra, and Tapas Sen, lending his vioice in many of their artistic ventures such as Prakriti Ananda and Streer Patra. He had a long association with the theatre group Bohurupee, Dancer’s Guild, as well as Rabitirtha, a Rabindrasangeet institute.
Shri Arghya Sen has been honoured by many institutions for his contribution to Rabindrasangeet. He was honoured with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1997.
Shri Arghya Sen is elected Tagore Fellow of Sangeet Natak Akademi for his contribution to Indian music.
