Shankar Lal Mishra

Born on 1 August 1924 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, Shri Shankar Lal Mishra received his training in Hindustani music from Narayan Rao Joshi of Gwalior, Bhola Nath Bhatt of Allahabad, and later from Ustad Amir Khan. Shri Shankar Lal Mishra belongs to the Kirana Gharana. He has performed widely in India and abroad, and also over All India Radio and Doordarshan. All through his career on the concert platform, he has imparted training in vocal music to his many students, and devoted himself to the academic study of music. His books on musical theory and practice in Hindi include Sangeet Shastra Vivechan, and Raag Sangam. He has also composed and published more than five hundred Dhrupad, Dhamar, Khayal, Thumri and Dadra compositions. He has many recordings to his credit.
Shri Shankar Lal Mishra has received several awards for his work from institutions of arts.
