Born on 30 November 1920 in Karam Awang Leikai, Manipur, Shri Karam Chaoba
Singh was initiated and groomed in the Ariba Pala by Mukta Singh, Shelungba
Singh, and Mangi Singh.
Over long years of practice, he was acknowledged as a master of this art, and performed extensively through his professional career. Besides locations in Manipur and festivals in many parts of India, he has presented his art on All India Radio and Doordarshan. He has also trained a number of students in the Ariba Pala.
Shri Chaoba Singh is the recipient of a Fellowship of the Manipur State Kala Akademi. For his service to the traditional art, he has been honoured with the Manipur State Kala Akademi Award and the Badyaratna title conferred by the Manipur Sahitya Parishad.
Shri Karam Chaoba Singh receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Tagore Award for his contribution to Sankirtana as an Ariba Pala artist.
