I present to you Swami Prajnanananda.
Born in 1906, Swami Prajnanananda became a Sanyasin at the early age of 22, initiated by Swami Abhedananda, a direct disciple of Shri Ramakrishna Paramahansa and a contemporary of Swami Vivekananda.
An eminent scholar of Indian music, Swami Prajnanananda is equally distinguished as a musician.
Swami Prajnanananda’s special field of study is history and philosophy of Indian music. His books Sangeet O Samsktiti and Historical Development of Indian Music reveal his learning and have received high appreciation. He is associated with the Faculties of Music of the Calcutta University, Rabindra Bharati and Visvabharati. The Sangeet Natak Akademi has elected him a Fellow of the Akademi.
