Laxman Krishnarao Pandit

Born on 5 March 1934 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, Shri Laxman Krishnarao Pandit received his training in Hindustani music from his father, Krishnarao Shankar Pandit of the Gwalior gharana. Over the past several decades, he has distinguished himself as an exponent of the music of his gharana.
A Ph.D. in literature from Jiwaji University, Gwalior, and an artist of All India Radio, Shri Laxman Krishnarao Pandit worked as a music producer in All India Radio. He later became a Professor in the Faculty of Music and Fine Arts, University of Delhi. Shri Pandit has trained a number of wellknown vocalists. He has a large repertoire of khayals, taranas and tappas, which he has recorded for various archives of music. He also has a number of publications to his credit.
He has been honoured by various prestigious organizations and has received many titles and awards including the Sangeet Ratna conferred by Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh, and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (1997). He has a large number of recordings to his credit.
Shri Laxman Krishnarao Pandit is elected Tagore Fellow of Sangeet Natak Akademi for his contribution to Indian music.
