I present to you, Sir, Shri E. Krishna Iyer, who holds a unique position in the world of art in South India. Trained in all the three arts, music, drama and Bharata Natyam, Shri Krishna Iyer played a significant role in the revival of Bharata Natyam through his lectures, demonstrations and scholarly writings. Similarly, the Bhagavata Mela dance-drama today owes its position among the arts of the Tamil region mostly to his efforts. Shri Krishna Iyer has written extensively on dance and music and has received several honours and titles from appreciative societies. The State recognized his services to art by bestowing the title of Padma Shri on him. In recognition of the great contribution of a lifetime to the three arts, the Akademi has elected him a Fellow.
