Tiruvengadu Subramania Pillai

I present to you, Sir, Tiruvengadu Shri Subramania Pillai.
Born in 1906, in Thanjavur District, Shri Subramania Pillai is one of the most distinguished Nadasvara Vidwans In Karnatak music today. He belongs to a family of Nadasvara Vidwans and received his training from Shri Samidorai Pillai. He has held important positions such as Honorary Principal of Nadasvaram College of Palani; Honorary Principal, Government Music College, Tiruvaiyaru; Member, Advisory Committee, Central College of Karnatak Music, Madras.
Besides innumerabre performances in India, Shri Subramania Pillai has delighted large audiences in Sri Lanka and Malaysia.
He has also received honours and decorations from many distinguished persons and bodies. These include ‘Punnaga Nada Mani’ from Kanchi Shri Shankaracharya, ‘Kalasikamani’ of Tamil Nadu State Sangeeta Nataka Sangam, ‘Nadasvara Chakravarti’ from the citizens of Malaysia and ‘Nadasvara Raja’ from the citizens of Sri Lanka. For his eminence in the field of music and his contribution to its enrichment, Tiruvengadu Shri Subramania Pillai has been elected Fellow of the Akademi.
