Tiruvengadu A. Jayaraman



Born in 1933 in Tiruvengadu, Tamil Nadu, Shri Tiruvengadu A. Jayaraman received his training in music under Shri Melattur Swaminatha Dikshitar and later honed his style under Shri Madurai Mani Iyer and Vember Iyer. A leading Carnatic vocalist, Shri Jayaraman is known for his adherence to tradition. He is also a reputed scholar who has performed and lectured widely in India and various countries. Shri Jayaraman has received several honours for his work in music from institutions and Sabhas. In 1997, he was appointed Asthana Vidwan of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham and in 2004 he received the Ganapadma award of the Brahma Gana Sabha of Chennai. Shri Tiruvengadu A. Jayaraman receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Carnatic vocal music.
