Chingleput Ranganathan



Shri Chingleput Ranganathan was born in 1938 in Madras. He received his training in Carnatic vocal music from the Alathur Brothers and Alathur Venkatesa Iyer for ten years under the traditional gurukula system. A distinguished vocalist, Shri Ranganathan has served for twenty years as a staff artist with All India Radio, Chennai. He is also a dedicated teacher, and has trained a number of students of Carnatic music. He is now Principal of the Teachers’ College of the Music Academy, Madras. Shri Ranganathan has been honoured for his service to music by several institutions in Tamil Nadu. He was awarded the title of Sangeetha Kala Acharya by the Music Academy of Madras, and has been selected as Asthana Vidwana of the Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt of Kanchipuram. Shri Chingleput Ranganathan receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribu- tion to Carnatic vocal music.
