Trichy Swaminathan Iyer



Born in 1910 in Trichy, Tamil Nadu, Shri Trichy Swaminathan Iyer received his training in vocal music from his father Shri Tiruvayar Subramania Iyer. He gave his first solo recital in 1926 and has performed widely since then. Shri Trichy Swaminathan Iyer has a wide repertoire of Kritis including rare compositions of Thyagaraja, and is well known for his rendering of Pallavis. He has combined his concert career with teaching and has trained many musicians over the years. Shri Swaminathan Iyer has received a number of honours including the title Kalaimamani from the Tamil Nadu Eyal Isai Nataka Manram in 1987. Shri Trichy Swaminathan Iyer receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contri- bution to Carnatic vocal music.
