Born in 1932 in Padarkkudi in Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu, Shri Balasubra- manya Iyer Krishnamoorti received his training in Pallavi- singing under Mudicondan Venkatarama Iyer. His vast repertoire of Thyagaraja compositions and Muthuswami Dikshitar’s Kritis, together with his command over Padams and Javalis, has earned Shri Krishnamoorti a unique place among teachers of Carnatic music. His lecture- demonstrations on various aspects of music on rare talas and Tillanas, together with his intricate Pallavi expositions have won him a distinctive position in the field as a musician and musicologist. Shri Krishnamoorti has served as Professor and Principal of the Tamil Nadu Government Music College, where he has imparted training to students for several years. He has to his credit a number of audio-cassettes and CDs. Shri Krishnamoorti has been honoured by many institutions for his work in music. Shri Balasubramanya Iyer Krishnamoorti receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Carnatic vocal music.
