Born on 22 June 1922 in Bombay, Shri V. Balsara was trained in Western music under Mrs Hilda Fieldburg. He has worked as a musician, composer and arranger, and has distinguished himself as a music director in films from Bombay and Calcutta. He has also composed music for the stage and for television. With his knowledge of Indian and Western music, Shri Balsara has successfully presented Indian classical music on Western instruments like the piano. His continuous experimentation has resulted in a large output of records and cassettes. Shri Balsara received the Allauddin Khan Award of West Bengal in 1990. Shri V. Balsara receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to creative music.
