Born on 15 October 1923 in Imphal, Manipur, Shri T. Nadia Singh was trained in the dance traditions of Manipur, including Rasleela, by eminent gurus including Sarvashri Maisnam Amubi Singh, Haobam Atomba Singh and T. Amudon Sharma. From Guru Haobam Chaobi Singh he received lessons in Pung and Shri Haobam Gopalmacha Singh trained him in playing the Srikhol. Shri Nadia Singh started taking part in Nata-sankirtana and Monosai Padabali Kirtanas early in life, travelling to different parts of Manipur and Assam. He joined the Academy of Dance, Drama and Music, West Bengal, as a teacher in 1956; and when the Rabindra Bharati University was set up in 1962 he was appointed Senior Lecturer in Dance — a position he held till his retirement in 1988. As a subject expert and examiner he has also served the Visva- Bharati University. Shri T. Nadia Singh was honoured with the Manipur State Kala Akademi Award in 1987 and with the title Nritya Bhushan by Manipuri Sahitya Parishad in 1994. Shri T. Nadia Singh receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Manipuri Dance.
