Born on 24 September 1920 in Kuchipudi village, Andhra Pradesh, Shri Vedantam Parvateesam received his training in Kuchipudi Yaksha- ganas from Sarvashri Chinta Venkataramayya, Vedantam Ramakrishnayya and Vedan- tam Raghavayya. He was instructed in music by Shri Yeleswarapu Sitaramanjaneyulu and in Telugu literature by Shri Vedantam Lakshminarasimham and Shri Yeleswaracharya. Shri Vedantam Parvateesam began participating in Kuchipudi Yakshaganas early in life, and was a member of the troupe which performed at the Jaipur session of the Indian National Congress in 1930. Subsequently he has been a teacher and scholar. In 1957 he helped in the founding of Siddhendra Kala- kshetram, where he taught till he retired as Principal. He has also worked as a Natyacharya at Ongole and Tenali in Andhra Pradesh. Among his students are Sarvashri Vedantam Rattayya Sarma, Yeleswarapu Nageswara Sarma and Bhagvatulu Ramakottaiah. Shri Parvateesam’s published works include an edition of the Bhamakalapam of Siddhendra Yogi (1964), Kuchipudi Melakar- talu (1981), Gollakalapam (1986) and Nrutya Tarangini (1988). Shri Vedantam Parvateesam has been honoured by Telugu University and the erstwhile Nrutya Academy of Andhra Pradesh. Shri Vedantam Parvateesam receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contri- bution to Kuchipudi.
