Born in 1927 in Kuchipudi, Andhra Pradesh, Shri Pasu- marthi Seetha Ramiah received his training in Kuchipudi dance from Shri Chinta Venkata Ramayya and Vedantam Raghavayya. He also studied vocal music under Shri Elaswa- rapu Seeta Ramayya. A widely respected teacher, Shri Pasumarthi Seetha Ramiah has trained a number of Kuchipudi dancers within the country and abroad. He has also given special instruction in abhinaya and Yakshagana to postgraduate students of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Andhra University. To propagate his dance, he has established the Venkata Ramana Kuchipudi Nritya Niketan in Vishakha- patnam. Some of the prominent Kuchipudi dancers trained by him include Shrimati Swapna- sundari and Lakshmi Kantam. Compositions for Kuchipudi dance created by Shri Seetha Ramiah have been published in the form of commercial audio- cassettes. For his outstanding work as a Kuchipudi dance teacher, Shri Seetha Ramiah has been conferred the title Uttama- natyacharya (1964). He has been honorary adviser to the Kuchipudi Natya Academy, Vishakhapatnam. Shri Pasumarthi Seetha Ramiah receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to Kuchipudi dance.
