Shri Korada Narasimha Rao was born in 1936 in Eluru, Andhra Pradesh. He received his training in Kuchipudi dance and Yakshagana under Gudi- metla Krishna, C.R. Acharyulu, and Chadalavada Samrajyam. He also studied Kathakali under Guru Gopinath. Performing extensively in various prestigious festivals in India and abroad, Shri Korada Narasimha Rao has established himself as an outstanding exponent of Kuchipudi dance. He has trained a number of disciples at his institution Shri Nritya Bharati at Eluru, who are themselves well-established dancers and teachers. The late Indrani Rehman and Shrimati Yamini Krishnamurti are two of his eminent disciples. Shrimati Vyjayanthi Kashi has also been his student. Shri Rao has served on the Academic Council of Andhra University, been chief examiner for Kuchipudi dance at P.S. Telugu University, and worked as Vice-President of the Akhila Bharatiya Kuchipudi Natyamandali. Shri Narasimha Rao has received many awards for his work all through his career. He was honoured with the Best Male Dancers’ Award for his performance at the International Cultural Festival held in Paris in 1960, the Bharata Kalapra- poorna title conferred by the Andhra Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi, the Kala Saraswathi and Kala Neerajanam awards bestowed by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, and the Natya Pandit title conferred by the Andhra Pradesh Nritya Kala Parishad. Shri Korada Narasimha Rao receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribu- tion to Kuchipudi dance.
