Yelesarapu Nageswara Sarma



Born in 1938 in Kuchipudi, Andhra Pradesh, Shri Yeleswa- rapu Nageswara Sarma was initiated in Kuchipudi dance by his father Yeleswarapu Venkat- eswarulu. Later, he received advanced training in the art under several gurus including Vedantam Lakshminarayana Sastry, Vedantam Parvatee- sam, and P.V.G. Krishna Sarma- garu. He also studied Carnatic music from Guru Yelleswarapu Seetaramanjaneyu. An accomplished performer and teacher, Shri Nageswara Sarma trained many disciples while working as a dance master at the B. Ratnam High School, Nirmala High School, and Jawahar Bala Bhavan at Machilipatnam. He has given several lecture-demonstrations on Kuchipudi in prestigious dance conferences and also conducted workshops on the dramatic art. Shri Sarma has directed a number of dance-dramas, and has also choreographed dance sequences in several Telugu films. He has been honoured by the Potti Sri Ramulu Telugu University, Hyderabad, and the Akhila Bharata Kuchipudi Nritya Kala Parishad, Kuchipudi, as well as other institutions. Shri Yeleswarapu Nageswara Sarma receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution in the field of Kuchipudi dance.
