Born on 1 March 1969 in Dibrugarh in Assam, Shrimati Anita Sharma received her initial training in Sattriya under Roseshwar Saikia Bayan and later under Guru Jatin Goswami. She has also received training in Odissi dance under Shrimati Gorima Hazarika and Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra.
Shrimati Anita Sharma has established herself as one of the leading exponents of Sattriya dance. She has received critical acclaim for her performances in India and abroad. She has incorporated elements from her research work in her choreographic works, which include Ritu Rang, Sunit Kunwari, and Anubhav, besides Sattriya repertory presentations such as Leela Gobindam, Uma Rudra Sambad, Adhipsa, Utho Meri Laal, Vandana, Sita Haran, and Dasavatar. Shrimati Sharma has also assisted her guru in choreographic works like Chandalika. She trains young Sattriya dancers at her institute, Abhinaya Dance Academy in Guwahati.
Shrimati Anita Sharma has received several honours including Nrutya Bidushai Samman (2012) conferred by International Dance Congress, Bhubaneswar, and Devdasi Award (2013) bestowed by the Devdasi Nrutya Mandir.
Shrimati Anita Sharma receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for 2014 for her contribution to Sattriya Dance.
