Ramcharan Nirmalkar

Born in 1927 in Ghulghul village in Raipur district of Chattisgarh, Shri Ramcharan Nirmalkar learnt dancing and music in his own environs in his early youth. Largely through his own efforts, he learnt to play percussion instruments such as the Tabla, Kanjira and Chikra.
Shri Nirmalkar was groomed as a stage actor by Shri Habib Tanvir in the early 1970s, and has since then been a part of his cast in many productions. Beginning with Shri Tanvir’s popular play Charandas Chor, Shri Nirmalkar has performed leading roles in Agra Bazar, Hirma ki Amar Kahani, Dekh Rahe Nayan, Mor Nam Damad Gaon ka Nam Sasural, and Bahadur Kalarin. He has also acted in Shekhar Kapoor’s well-known film Bandit Queen. He has participated in several theatre workshops in the country.
Shri Ramcharan Nirmalkar receives the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to theatre as an actor.
